Support the Monachus Project by sponsoring a Cinereous Vulture!

Sponsoring a Cinereous Vulture you will contribute to recover this species in the historical distribution areas where it became extinct, as well as the development of programs aimed to studying the threats and health status of the populations of this emblematic scavenger. You can sponsor a cinereous vulture!

To date, dozens of people have participated in the recovery of the Cinereous Vulture thanks to their collaboration through the sponsorship of specimens of GREFA´s reintroduction projects. GREFA (acronym of Group for the Rehabilitation of Native Fauna and its Habitat) is a non-profit NGO dedicated to the study and conservation of nature. Among other projects, GREFA develops the Monachus Project with the aim of recovery the extint populations of this majestic bird.

The Monachus Project has three lines of action that you can support by sponsoring Cinereous Vultures:

  • • Reintroduction of the Cinereous Vulture in the Iberian System (Sierra de la Demanda, Burgos).
  • • Reintroduction of the Cinereous Vulture in the Pyrenees (Boumort Reserve, Lleida).
  • • Study of the threats and the health status of Cinereous Vulture in the Central System.

The benefits that you will obtain if sponsor a Cinereous Vulture from any o the lines of action are:

  1. To accompany the Cinereous Vultures in their move to the acclimation cage in the Sierra de la Demanda (Burgos).
  2. To visit the Cinereous Vulture chicks born in the GREFA breeding center (Majadahonda, Madrid).
  3. To visit the area of reintroduction of Cinereous Vulture in the Sierra de la Demanda.
  4. To attend the liberation of the Cinereous Vultures in the Sierra de la Demanda.
  5. To receive the sponsorship certificate.
  6. To receive photos and information on the movements of the sponsored Cinereous Vultures.
  7. To receive the GREFA membership card for one year.
  8. To visit the GREFA facilities in our headquarters in Majadahonda, Madrid (for four people).

These experiences are just an intimate way of bringing GREFA's work closer to our sponsors. You will have the opportunity to appreciate the plumage of a wild Cinereous Vulture up close, an experience very few people have access to. The economic contribution of the sponsorships is destined entirely to this project.
