Beragu. Bonelli´s EagleTwo eagles attached to their homes.

Helena and Beragu, two Bonelli´s Eagles that were born in GREFA and released in Navarra last spring by the hacking method, are still living close to their releasing point and coming to eat to the platforms built to feed them.

It is important to stand out the fidelity of these two eagles to the reintroduction area. As though they should be, as they rest of the Bonelli´s of their age, in their juvenile dispersal phase, they still remain dependant of their natal area or hacking. Their GPS radio transmitters indicate us that they are still bound to the hacking area where they also return from their trips around Navarra and boundary provinces.

Taking advantage of the visit of our French friends, Michel Terrasem and Martine Razín from the LPO/BirdLife, Carmelo Fernández sent us these pictures of “Beragu´s new year”, feeding on one of the platforms. Carmelo and Paz are the guards of the Bonelli´s of Navarra and the ones responsible that the Eagles sill remain very close to the nest where they were released.

In the reinforcement project of Navarra, four individuals that were brought up in captivity have been released, and although the two eagles that were released last year lost their transmitters, it seems that they are still surrounding the releasing area.
